Ambassador of Poland: Mr Krzysztof Szumski Recommending Wieliczka Salt Mine
There is a small town in the south of Poland, and a salt mine named Wieliczka is in the town. It is a well-known salt capital in Poland with a unique style and has a history of several hundreds years. The Wieliczka Salt Mine was listed as one of the national-level Polish historical sites in 1976, and was selected as one of the world cultural heritages by the United Nations in 1978. The salt mine is an open tourism scenic spot, which receives many visitors a year, and every visitor here can get a deep impression from it. We built a rare tourism resort on the salt passageway with a depth of more than 130 meters from the ground for travelers to visit. There are museums and entertainment halls in the tourism resort. We also retained the original salt lake, praying hall and the working site of miners as what it once was. Many sculptures and ornaments are all made of salt and worked with great care, such as a renowned sculpture from “the Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci. The art works from salt are well received by visitors. I once accompanied a Thai princess on a visit to the salt mine. She said the place left an indelible impression on her. The Wieliczka Salt Mine brings a wonder to the world. Besides, Krakow — a Polish ancient capital — is only a dozen kilometers away from the salt mine. It is the biggest city in Poland and also the oldest. Many scenic spots there are worth visiting, like the classical buildings which are full of a characteristics of the Middle Ages. It is called the most beautiful city of Poland.
